Anastasia Cake

Who is Cake?

— Anastasia Cake is a young woman with some serious psychological scars.

Why is Cake?

— At the age of nine, Anastasia lost her twin brother Edison and her mother Juliette to the twisted, deviant whim of a serial killer known as Johnnie Walker Red.

What is Cake?

— Anastasia works as a waitress in a cheap diner, taking care of herself and her paranoid schizophrenic father, Thomas.

Where is Cake?

— Anastasia and Thomas live in a cheap apartment building in New York City.

When is Cake?

— Right now. Anastasia is 20 years old.

How is Cake?

— Not so hot, actually...

Anastasia barely gets by on what she makes at the diner, and spends all of it just to keep herself and her father alive. Thomas Cake reads strange arcane books he gets from the library and consorts with a trio of eccentric old men in some kind of secret "club." There's a giant bum living in the alley below the Cakes' fire escape — a bum who calls himself Algernon and lives off the scraps Anastasia nabs from the diner when she can. Algernon's not exactly firing on all cylinders either — he appears to have strange conversations with someone who isn't even there. And the morbid history of the Cake family still haunts everyone they touch.

But something strange is going down. A multitude of old ladies has been seen roaming the neighborhood; ladies who all look exactly alike. There's a mysterious bakery across the street with really, really strange smells wafting through its doorway. Algernon's imaginary friend is starting to talk to Anastasia. Thomas and his circle of geezers are performing new occult experiments...that actually work. And Winter, usually white cold and razor sharp in this neighborhood, has suddenly become unseasonably — almost Hellishly — warm....
